Slottsskänken - Rehearsal Dinner

The Rehearsal Dinner, on Friday evening ~7:00 pm, will be held at a restaurant called Slottsskänken (Castle Cellar) in the cellar of the Örebro Slott (Örebro Castle).

Getting to the castle is very easy from both the Hotel Behrn and the Radisson -

 - it is only a block or two so away from both.  (Tours of the castle have been arranged at 1:30 pm on Friday - signup at hotel lobbies)  The castle is very picturesque and is flanked by restaurants and bars and has a river/moat surrounding it.

The dinner will of course be held the cellar.  The space has been used over time for many purposes including storage and a prison.  There are some great stories about inmates that have been held in the prison that our chef has promised to come out and tell us.

An interesting note.  Our chef, Jonny Johansson, was for ten years running one of the official chefs to the Nobel Prize dinner in Stockholm.  During that period he owned a well known restaurant outside of Stockholm.  As he told the story: One day he got a call from a person with an american accent saying that "Good Morning America" was broadcasting shows from a European country per week and wanted to know if he would host a segment each morning for a week on the cuisine of Sweden.  They also asked if he would mind sharing his kitchen with a very famous chef... namely the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show.  The show went on for one week as planned and Jonny said his cooking partner was a pretty good chef even if he doesn't really speak Swedish and he played tennis with the meatballs.
